Friday Morning Landscape Photoshoot!

A view of Harris Hill Ski Jump from across the Retreat Meadows
A view of the Harris Hill Ski Jump.
The colors in the trees really pop.  Could they be buds?

This landscape photo captures the S curve rule.
I love the colors!  Blue sign, red and yellow fencing, plus the green wooden sides on the jump.

The famous Harris Hill Ski Jump.
Brattleboro's famous winter landscape!
The red barn makes for a perfect landscape photo in the middle of winter

 The farmer's homestead landscape

The layered look of the hills and mountains is amazing.
The one in the distant has a purple hue to it.

The sun coming over Mount Wantastiquet and shining down onto the Retreat Meadows

I had my Cannon on manual setting for this photo.  I altered the white balance in the custom setting.  I don't really know what I was doing with the white balance, but I was hoping to off set the brightness of the sun so I could capture more of an image rather than a white out.  I think it worked.
FS 16, ISO 250

I was trying to achieve depth in this picture, while capturing the beauty of the grass on the shoreline
All I can say is .....breathtaking!!!
I am never sure how a picture will turn out.
  I LOVE THIS ONE  :)
FS 5, ISO 1600
This picture captures the natural beauty of the landscape.  Can you see the red bush in the middle?
I think it "makes" the picture

This is another one of those photos when you never know what you are going to get.
How cool is the contrasting GREEN roof???

 Brattleboro's own winter playground

Morning Tea anyone?? ......

 Shanty ghost town!
I was so excited to find a collection of colorful shanties.  This looks very vintage.
FS 16  ISO 1600

I know it is another shot of the shanties, but the colors are different and crisp in this shot.  FS 9  ISO 100

There is a lot of depth in this photo

This view of the Connecticut River Valley makes it feel like a painting

This is my all time favorite.  The angle demonstrates the slope of the land and the grass defines the water's edge.  The shanty on the shore is captures in the rule of thirds.  I hope you like this one too!
FS 5.6 ISO 100

These two are the same shot, but one with the tree in the rule of thirds and one without the tree.  I think the one with the tree takes away some of the depth in this landscape.  The color in the clouds and the way they lay over the valley in the morning is very majestic.

Thin ICE!!  The trail of the water exposed through the thin ice helps to break up this landscape.  The red shanty in the back is the ultimate contract :)  Did you notice the aqua blue and green along the exposed water?  WOW!!

 LAST ONE......

Rustic, soft on the eyes and the array of colors is very warming
FS 11  ISO 320

I hope you liked my Friday Morning photo shoot of Landscapes in Brattleboro.  I had an absolute blast!

  1. HI
I think that you where able to get great shots. They are all very interesting and unique. My car had a flat tire so all I was able to do is walk out into the fields. Nice work! Maria

  3. it appears as though you are having a very good time with this. So good, that you just could not stop.

It looks like you really are developing a good eye for this. What I would suggest about crispness and detail that you asked about, is to zoom in on a subject, or get closer to it so it takes up more of the picture plane. Remember, a landscape photo doesn't have to be the entire landscape. The camera lens can only pick up so much at a time. So why not take advantage of this and focus in on specific items in the landscape?

You have done excellent work here!

  4. Nice pictures! I like the different places you chose to photograph. The pictures with the red barn are really nice as they give that nice contrast of the red barn and the blue sky.

  5. These came out very well! I love the ones of the ski jumps and the barn! It's to bad there wasn't anybody going down the jump.
